Many of us think of rock music as of the dark side of the music. We imagine only the drums, the electric guitars and the long hair singers who have no respect for their image or life style. When we say rock music, we see the people wearing black clothes and dark painted nails. We see the desolation and the despair. We imagine those lost souls and the pain in their hearts. We see people that revolt against everything and fighting for their “unreal” rights. But this is just PREJUDICE. Yes it is. If you could only take a minute to read and listen to the different genres of rock you will admit that you are a total fan of rock music. Even if you are old or young, you sang at least once a rock song. Just make an exercise: remember when you last danced on “Love me tender” of Elvis Presley; when you loved hearing the sounds of “Wind of change”. Be sincere and tell me: don’t you just loved The Beatles, or The Rolling Stones. Sure they weren’t quite your role model, but can’t you think at least of one song you loved hearing from their discography. Or, of course you are a Christian so this rock music is the music of the evil, but don’t you just love Avalon or Hillsong?
Sure the history of rock music goes back in 1950 when rock and roll music created the roots for the future genres. This music evolved and created so many genres that you simply can’t find at least one that you like. Let’s take a look and maybe at the end of the article you can say: “I didn’t know I’m a true rock music fan!”.
Let’s start with surf music of the 60s when The Beatles and the Rolling Stones invaded the world with their songs. Then take a step forward and find the garage rock with the Sonics, and the pop rock with the Everly Brothers and the handsome Rod Steward. Then you will find Eric Clapton as part of the blues-rock genre. And don’t forget about Bob Dylan with his folk rock. Let’s step forward and come closer to our times. You say you don’t love hard rock, but tell me if you ever listened a song of Aerosmith or Queen or AC/DC or the Police or Blondie? Be sincere and remember about the U2 or Guns’ and roses. Can’t you find at least one song you just love listening? Just one…
These lines are not for the rock music fans, but for the skeptics. For the ones who have prejudices and judge the rockers by their general and narrow view of rock music. Rock music is not all about hard noises and the lack of silence. It’s not about the dark side of your soul. It’s all about the difference stages of your human heart. Even if you are defined by soft rock or rock and roll or heavy metal, your heart has its own music and if its rock music doesn’t mean your heart is dark. It’s just very complex.
